DATSUN
VINYL LION KNOB
#328-K5 Metric
All
1500's and all 1600's up to SPL311-11000 came with SAE
threads on the shifter. All 2000's and 67 1/2 -70
1600's (SPL311 11001 up) originally came with METRIC
shifter threads. Your car could have been changed.
Original 65-67 1600 knob is a round plastic ball
(SAE). Original 67 1/2-70 is a black plastic tapered
cone with a chrome band around the lower smaller
diameter area. If you have these knobs on your car you
probably have the original shifter. After 40+ years
your car could have either. To check, remove your knob
and see if either a SAE 5/16 coarse thread nut or an
metric 8mm x 1.25 (metric) nut will easily go on (with
your fingers, not a wrench).
GRIFFIN?
LION?
The animal shown on the knobs is based on what Nissan
put on its original keys in the 60s. I have seen this
called a griffin sometimes; which is a creature from
mythology that was supposedly half eagle and half
lion; with or without wings. I've seen it described as
a lion with wings; a lion with an eagles head...take
your pic. I have also seen a drawing of a combined
logo that was created when Nissan merged with the
Prince Motor Company that showed two standing lions.
Although the companies merged about 50 years ago;
Prince still operates inside Nissan. Over the
company's lifetime Prince has produced some very
unique and stylish vehicles. Did you think the current
"Nissan GTR" was REALLY a "Nissan"?
