FILLER NECK AND GAS CAP FIT INFO (Suggested reading for 1970's)

USED CAPS are NOT GUARANTEED to seal ANYTHING

They are strictly for LOOKS.

OK, OK, but with ALL caps; we would strongly recommend you cut or get someone to cut or find a suitable neoprene gasket for the cap or it may not seal... The 172-10 style caps we many times have a seal for; and if so; will note it in description and include one.

The little arms that grab the fuel filler tube can also get out of whack and have to be readjusted (bent slightly) if cap isn't grabbing the tube tightly. With most used locks at this age (40-50 years old); the keys can be sticky and you may have to "jiggle" them to get them to function. Also remember most of the caps are designed so you can't remove the key when they are in the unlocked position.

Whatever gas remnants are on cap eventually turn to varnish and/or crud. Be sure to take off your filler tube and make sure the vent system on cap is clear so tank pressure can escape. Failure to do this can result in leaks and or damage to tank.

And while we are talking about gas; keep in mind that gas with 10% ethanol; as mandated by the Washington DC corn lobby puppets; can start degrading in as little as 30 days OR LESS. Never leave this crud in your tank without adding stablizer. Run clean gas (some small stations have it) or use additive and after 90 days all bets are off even with additive. Isn't it fun paying farmers to burn huge amounts of diesel growing and hauling corn so they* and the refineries can profit; while we get to replace carbs on small engines; or deal with dissolving original gas tank internal sealers? Sometimes even the nastiest cleaners don't save you from a very expensive injector cleaning on newer cars when this junk goes bad. Ethanol trashed fuel ALSO decreases gas mileage; the one thing it was supposed to help by extending the fuel supply. Only from Washington DC could laws like this have been created.

http://www.pure-gas.org nice search engine for real fuel.

* I'd rather pay a "corn tax" to NOT have the stuff in my tank; give the money to family farms to grow corn to give to those that need it.
